In this first year of its 8th Five-Years Development Plan (July 2007-June 2012), SEAMEO BIOTROP conducted its programmes and activities including training courses, researches, seminars/ workshops, information disseminations and publications.

For the Fiscal Year under review, human resource development and environmental conservation became the major concern in the Centre's activities.   However, due to the unpredictable circumstances related to global economic crisis as the effect of the escalating oil price followed by the increasing prices of various commodities, services and transportation costs, the current year progress was not as expected as shown by less numbers of various academic activities. In addition, the number of academic staff was reduced due to the retirement age or left for a better salary in other organizations/ companies.  In this Fiscal Year, to survive the competitive market, new strategies were developed to improve the quality management by preparing ISO 9001:2000 certification, through maintaining ISO 17025:2005 accreditation, staff monitoring and evaluation, improving facilities as well as introducing the new programme of Bogor Science Park.

In the Fiscal Year under review (2007-2008), SEAMEO BIOTROP conducted 23 training courses and 3 workshops with a total of 429 individuals participated
in the training courses and workshops. These activities were successfully conducted through the support from the SEDF, by the Government of Indonesia (DIPA), various national and international funding agencies as well as through fee-paying participants. During academic year 2007-2008, a total of 27 students were enrolled in the post graduate programme : Master of Science in Information Technology for Natural Resources Management (MIT) with 8 new students accepted in Odd Semester of 2007, and eleven students graduated from the Bogor Agricultural University.   Forty four seminars were presented by the researchers and MIT students during the Fiscal Year under review.

During the Fiscal Year, a total of 20 research projects currently on¬going that comprised of 18 national and 2 International funded projects. The national funding came from the Government of Indonesia under the DIPA research programme, competitive research grant and cooperation with the private sector.   SEAMEO BIOTROP researchers published articles in 6 refereed journals, 5 proceedings, and 36 technical reports.   SEAMEO BIOTROP researchers and academic staff attended 54 scientific trainings, workshops, conferences and symposia and some presented papers on their specific areas of expertise.
