In line with undertaking special initiatives under the 9th Five Year Development Plan (2012 – 2017), the BIOTROP’s First  Quarterly Technical Seminar Series was held on 26 August 2013 at the Centre’s headquarters in Bogor with Prof. Dr. Benito C. Tan of the National University of Singapore as the speaker.

The following distinguished guests have visited the Centre :

-Dr. Brook Milligan, Director of the Conservation Genomics Laboratory  and Professor of Biology at New Mexico State University, USA.  The  visit was part of his official mission in Indonesia as a Jefferson Science Fellow at the Washington-based US Department of State to explore genomic research collaboration with BIOTROP.

-Mr. Kiichi Oyasa, Program Officer of UNESCO Dhaka Office, and
Mr. Mitsutoshi Uchida, Coordinator for World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Pro motion Bureau of Okayama City, Japan.  The purpose of his visit was to learn about the Centre’s lifelong learning and community development activities and to explore possible collaboration

-Dr. Jan-Frits Veldkamp, grass expert from the National Herbarium of the Netherlands. While at BIOTROP Herbarium, he examined numerous grass collections and discovered  7 new records of grass species for 4 Indonesian islands.

The National Training Course on Integrated Storage Pest Management was held and attended by 25 Indonesian participants.  Besides, the Knowledge Management Department of SEAMEO BIOTROP has organized  successfully  a two-day   workshop on writing for International Scientific  Publications.

During the period under review SEAMEO BIOTROP has signed a MOU with Gunung Gede Pangrango National  Park (GGPNP) in the frame of restoring degraded areas in the park due to Invasive Alien Plant Species infestation.
