BIOTROP Courier Vol. 15 No. 4 (Oct- Dec 2013)
We consider the last quarter of 2013 as a memorable and gratifying period for us as regards the activities we conducted.
We are humbled by the commendation of our Governing Board on our accomplishments for fiscal year 2012-2013 during its 51st meeting on 1-3 October in Bogor.
We take pride in implementing our First International Conference on Tropical Biology held back-to-back with our GB meeting on 3-4 October. The conference is one of our special initiatives under our 9th Five-Year Development Plan (FYDP 2012-2017). We expect to hold it bi-annually as a venue to communicate new perspectives and opportunities on enhancing and promoting the real values and benefits of Southeast Asia’s tropical biodiversity for community welfare and environmental integrity.
The last quarter also saw the offering of our two new courses. We conducted a national training course on Application of Molecular Markers and Gene Discovery in Molecular Breeding last October and a regional training course on Optimizing Locally Available Natural Resources in Fish Feed Formulation for Sustainable Small-Scale Aquaculture Production last November in collaboration with An Giang University in Vietnam.
In November, it was our privilege to launch two books on Environmental Education for high school students written by Prof. Dr. M. Soerjani, BIOTROP’s former Program Manager for Tropical Pest Biology Program from 1970-1979.
We look forward to another productive year in 2014.
Happy reading to all.
