BIOTROP Courier Vol. XX Q1 2018
This year, our Centre celebrates its Golden Anniversary with the theme “Forging Ahead with Tropical Biology for Environmental and Societal Transformations in Southeast Asia (Tropical BEST-SEA)”. We were honored to have the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education and Culture (MoEC) of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr Didik Suhardi, to open our celebration on 26 February 2018 at our headquarter. During the ceremony, we launched a collaborative program with the MoEC on Non-Seasonal Fruit Production Development for Revitalization of Vocational Schools. A tree planting activity was held at SMKN 4 Bogor which was led by the Secretary General before the opening ceremony. Tree seedlings were also given to partner-schools.
We are proud that SEAMEO BIOTROP has another ongoing cooperation with the MoEC. The Centre contributes in Southeast Asia (SEA) Creative Camp 2018 initiated by the Directorate of Technical and Vocational Education of the MoEC by conducting an online training series on urban agriculture.
The celebration was also highlighted by signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with Universitas Gunadarma, Politeknik Pertanian Pangkajene Kepulauan, PT Garudafood Putra Putri Jaya and Masyarakat Ahli Penginderaan Jauh Indonesia (MAPIN). We also formalized our collaboration with the government of Bogor city through an MoU we signed on the synergism of vision and mission of the Centre and the government’s. The MoU aims to promote Bogor city as a School Garden City and develop communities through application of BIOTROP research results.
We also conducted talk shows with interesting themes featuring experts and practitioners from various backgrounds. The talk shows were part of the Centre’s mandate to provide useful information to the general public under our BIOTROP Learning Park program.
We are happy to welcome our new Deputy Director for Administration, Dr Zulhamsyah Imran, who is an expert in Coastal Area Management, Water Resources Management and Coastal and Marine Resources Management. We are also honored that Dr Katja Rembold, a post doc researcher at the University of Göttingen, and Dr Chew Fook Tim, an associate professor and researcher at National University of Singapore, shared their research experiences for BIOTROP’s Quarterly Public Seminar activities.
These exciting events and the spirit of Golden Anniversary inspire us to keep going for more for the rest of 2018!
