All part of our Golden Anniversary, BIOTROP proudly hosted the First Inter-Centre Badminton Tournament 2018 aiming at improving relationships and promoting sports as a social and healthy activity among the staff members of the seven SEAMEO Centres in Indonesia. We also featured Mr. Tri Kusharjanto, a former national badminton player who obtained a silver medal at the Seoul Olympics, to share his experiences in badminton tournaments. In this match, SEAMEO QITEP in Science (SEAQIS) won the overall tournament championship.
BIOTROP also officially appointed four experts this year new affiliate scientists, namely Prof Arief Sabdo Yuwono and Dr Awang Maharijaya from Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Dr Sutomo from Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), and Dr Dewi Wulandari from Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) Yogyakarta.
We participated in the Southeast Asian Creative Camp (SEA-CC) 2018 program initiated by the SEAMEO Secretariat as online course organizer on urban agriculture. The first course offering was held on 28 February - 22 March 2018 while the second on 21 May - 05 June 2018.
We also conducted its 2nd Quarterly Public Seminar for 2018 on 29 June 2018 featuring Prof Dr Nurul Taufiqu Rochman, M.Eng, a nanotechnology researcher at the Research Center for Physics of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) with the topic “Nanotechnology Research in Indonesia: Status, Prospects and Challenges”.
Our Centre formalized its collaboration with the Center for Tropical Horticulture Studies (PKHT) of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 22 May 2018. Another cooperation will come from Universiti Putra Malaysia which becomes the Centre’s partner in holding the 3rd International Conference on Tropical Biology 2018 next September.
We also established the council of mosque prosperity for Al-Hayat musholla. The council organized a breakfasting activity with 38 orphans for the first time on 31 May 2018 at the Centre’s campus. The Centre also launched its first motorcycle club, named STRIDE, for strengthening the relationship among our members.
